Baptisms and batman

hey!!!!

no transfers this week in our apartment! me and elder kalinja are way happy to still be together. the lord still has much more for us to do together, we both could feel it. elder kalinja was called as the new district leader though!

i'm way excited to hear from grandma and i'm glad you got my mail! two weeks to get there ...not bad ...you'll be getting more soon ; )

thanks for the byu-unlv update!

i wish i could've been at stake conference, especially for rachel's talk, i love that girl. president schlauder is the man. that bit you said about the children singing reminds me of one of my buddies, mike, from centennial's farewell. he spoke right after the primary sang, and it was pretty rough. the first thing he said when he got up there was ''Well ...at least the piano sounded good.'' it was sooo funnny.

to answer your questions, we basically teach people where ever we can find a shady spot to sit. usually they'll go into their houses and bring out a bench for us, cause if we teach inside its like a sauna.

on p-day we have to go into town to an internet cafe to get the internet. it costs like 1 cidi to get to town and 1 cidi for an hour of internet.

elder kalinja loves to go to the internet, so as long as i'm with him i'll pretty much be writing every week. some of the elders dont really have anything to do on the internet, so if i have a companion like that i might not be going to town every week. elder agama, for example, has parents who are both illiterate, so he hasnt even created an email account.

i got a nice letter this week from debbie who used to work for dad! she's been reading my blog i guess, and had some encouraging things to say.

as for this week....we had the baptisms yesterday!

they were at the beach! the bishop still wanted to do it at the beach, because in order for people to travel to yamoransa chapel, they'd have to pay a taxi. people wont come cause they dont have the money to. so we all walked to the beach. it was awesome!! I could really feel the eternal significance of what was happening as i baptised them. the people who were baptised were five: kobina fynn, gertrude prah, alice ainoo, edward koomson, darlin prah, plus one child of record. it was HARD to do in the ocean, with the waves and stuff. it was really cool though. FIVE DOWN!!

i have a story that will break davis's heart. it pains me to see how these people are deprived from some of the most important things in life. at district meeting this week, which we have every tuesday, we were talking about our heroes. i was one of only two american missionaries there that day. when asked who his hero was the other american elder said 'batman.' nobody else knew who that was, so everyone just went silent in the room for a few seconds and i just BUSTED up laughing so loud! elder kalinja was still confused when we got to the apartment. i had to explain that he didnt say 'badman.'

so on wednesday night i walked into the kitchen and saw elder agama holding a live rooster, and a huge stake knife! man, did he do work on that thing. i dont think there was a part of the body that he did not eat. these ghanaians dont let anything go to waste. when they eat chicken, they chew up the bones and suck the marrow out of them! this is africa!!

i dont think i have any happy birthdays to wish this week, except for nevada right?? hahah

well thanks for everything!!! i love you guys all soooo much!

love, elder mackay
