hey family,
man this week flew by. on tuesday, thursday, friday, and most of saturday and sunday we got to spend time in our area which was sweet. we had some cool investigators at church and met a few new people. we need more people to teach, though.
we did get a SWEET referral on sunday. her name is sarah, or maabina. her sister is a woman named forstina from the ward. she is about 24 and speaks english decently well. she had alot of questions about the word saint and what it means and about how corrupt the churches are here in ghana. it was a very spiritual lesson. she really loved it and wanted to meet on friday. she stays pretty far away, so she even offerred to meet us at our chapel at 12:30 this friday. so i'm really excited for her.
on wednesday we went on splits with the asueyobua apartment. i went with elders holmes and jaggi and had a nice day.
on saturday we had our interviews with presdident sabey, which is always nice. the part that hit me the most about interviews this time is something that president brought up. he mentioned that i've got about 7-8 months left. he then advised me to sprint to the finish. there is a cultlure around the mission that a missionary who's been here for more than a year and a half or so, gets tired and it is only natural that he doesnt have as much zeal for the work as at first. but if you think about it, it really should be the opposite way around. once you are a year and a half or so, you've been around the block a few times and really know what you're doing alot more than a year before. you are more experienced and efficient. you have the opportunity to teach other missionaries alot, cause they look up to the older missionaries. that's what president stressed alot. the part that hit me the most, though, was that i'm already to the point where i need to start thinking a little bit about "sprinting to the finish." i just cannot wrap my mind around that.
i had a random epiphony during a lesson yesterday. we were teaching a lesson with a yound woman outside her house. i was just looking around at ghana around me. there were a bunch of children playing nearby, there were a line of shops along the road and some loud music playing off in the distance. everywhere around us, besides the buildings, was green. i just had a sad, sad feeling as i thought that one day there will be a time that i won't be able to be in ghana. i wont get to be with the people or do anything that i do here. its not like i'll be able to just pack my bags and visit ghana fast fast anytime i want. even whenever i can make it back here, i don't think it'll be the same as my life is right now as a missionary. i donno if i explained that clearly, but i was just thinking about all that, and it made me wish that time would just slow down...
but don't worry i'm excited to go home too!!
well i'm getting out of here, i'm stoked for this week. we'll have tuesday, thursday, and friday in our area, and we'll be on splits with abuakwa apartment on wednesday and we'll be in sunyani for splits on saturday and sunday!
have a good week.
love, elder mackay
